About Us

We Offers Quality Systems & Services

Knxion (pronounced connection) started life as Household Automation Ltd in 1999 and as the name suggests the original company still trades within the residential automation sectors. The increasing demand for KNX systems over the years led us to create Knxion. Our aim is to drive energy efficiency in buildings by means of implementing long term monitoring and maintenance solutions. Knxion is the only dedicated design program and install of KNX equipment company in the UK.Knxions head office is based near Horsham in West Sussex. Our Engineering team is made up of people with years of experience in dealing with automation systems. We are 'hands on' and will ultimately be able to deal with all aspects of design, programming and maintenance / repair.

What is KNX system?

What is KNX system?

KNX was formed in 1999 and is a bus system standard for commercial and domestic building automation, it is ratified by the International Standards Organisation (ISO/IEC 13543 EN 50090). KNX is administered by the not for profit KNX association.

KNX evolved from three earlier standards; European Home Systems Protocol (EHS), BatiBUS, and the European Installation Bus (EIB or Instabus).

Each device has its own device file and memory, devices are programmed from the ETS software.

KNX devices can manage items such as: lighting, blinds and shutters, HVAC, security systems, energy management, audio video, white goods, displays etc and be controlled from different interfaces such as apps, touch screens, PC’s.

KNX has well over 8,000 products from over 500 companies. Over 500 training centres around the world have trained 90,000 partners.

KNX installations can use communication using:
• Twisted pair wiring (in a tree, line or star topology)
• Radio (KNX-RF)
• IP (also referred to as EIBnet/IP or KNXnet/IP)
KNX is not based on a specific hardware platform and a network can be controlled by anything from an 8-bit microcontroller to a PC, according to the demands of a particular building. The most common form of installation is over twisted pair.

Benefits

What KNX can do

In its simplest form KNX is relatively straight forward to implement. To set up and program a switch to operate a relay for a light for instance can be done with ease.

However the knowledge required to implement a high level installation expands exponentially.
Taking the ‘simple’ switch as an example:
- Choice of many manufacturers
- Mixing manufacturers (a different relay and switch)
- Price point
- Aesthetics of the switch.
- Expansion capabilities of: - Programming capabilities of each component.
- The switch (is it able to dim: can it store scenes: no of and configuration of the buttons: is it a switch range (e.g. system 55) that has interchangeable surround plates that could be used in conjunction with other manufacturers equipment etc.)
- The relay (how many channels: single, double, 4, 8, 16 etc: does it store scenes: does it include a timer: can it be used as a blinds relay as well etc)
Once the system is expanded it becomes apparent that different manufacturers will best fit certain aspects of the design, this means that invariably the power supply comes from manufacturer A the switch from manufacturer B the relay from manufacturer C and so on.

Knxion expertise with KNX enables us to offerthe following benefits:
- Flexibility and personalisation of the KNX set up.
- An integrated solution with other systems and front end apps.
- A safe and secure system.
- Potential time saving structured installation with our range of pre built panels.
- Pick and choose our expertise - consultation: design: programming: repair: maintenance.
- A future proof technology with ongoing support.
Flexibility and personalisation of the KNX set up.
Because of the vast range of products there are many solutions to any design. With the knowledge that Knxion has acquired over the years we are able to quickly provide solutions that are best tailored to our customers needs.

From the topology of the KNX layout to the aesthetic of the switches and surrounds to the means of front end control every design solution has many elements. We work with most of the major KNX manufacturers and keep up to date with new products and solutions. No limits, only possibilities. KNX is your all-in-one solution for every building automation challenge. An integrated solution with other systems and front end apps. KNX has a 28 years of experience in building automation. You can work with different products from different manufacturers. KNX can even be coupled to other systems and is independent from any hard or software technology. Moreover, KNX technology can be used in both new as well as existing buildings. A KNX installation can be easily extended and adapted to new needs, with little time and financial investment. KNX can be implemented in both small-size family houses as well as large buildings.

A safe and secure system Security is a hot topic and the safety demands for control systems are increasing. KNX is committed to being compliant with the highest security requirements in the market. With KNX you can rest assured of a secure installation process. No extra effort or system from the professional is needed. KNX Secure is integrated in existing software.

Potential time saving structured installation with our range of pre built panels. Knxion design team will not only supply the system design but also provide pre-built panel that come ready programmed and documented so the on site electrical contractor can fit and test with ease. Knxion provides future proof technology with ongoing support. The smart home and building market is constantly changing and technology is improving fast. However, the latest technologies, such as internet of things. Iot are already part of our current software. The KNX technology is a reference in home and building control. Any automation solution you’re using today will surely be as relevant in the decades to come.
